CALL: Quality of Government Institute's (QoG) Best Paper Award

News: May 03, 2017

The Quality of Government Institute (QoG) at the University of Gothenburg announces the inaugural award for the best paper on a QoG-related topic. The paper can be published as an article, book chapter, a working paper in a university, or an otherwise recognizable working paper series in 2016/17, or presented at an academic international conference in 2016/17. QoG related topics should focus on impartiality in the exercise of public power. The norm of impartiality is abused when corruption, clientelism, favoritism, discrimination, patronage, nepotism or undue support to special interest groups occurs. We invite nominations of papers that research any of these topics.

The award will be presented to the author (or authors) of a paper that demonstrates outstanding research based on its theoretical and empirical contributions.

To be eligible, the author must be enrolled in a PhD program or hold a higher academic rank (postdoc and assistant through full professors are all eligible). Only one paper per author can be submitted. Authors can be self-nominated or nominated by others. Nominations should provide a one page motivation for presenting the paper for the award.

Please submit the paper to alice.johansson@gu.se.

The submission must contain the following:

  • Word .doc or .docx format
  • Maximum 12,000 words (exclusive of references and appendices); Times New Roman font, font size 12, and formatted according to a standard citation style;
  • Tables, graphs, images, etc. should appear within the body of the paper;
  • Author name should not appear anywhere in the main text;
  • A separate cover page with title, author names, institutional affiliations, and an abstract of 250 words or less.

Deadline: September 15th, 2017

Award: 400 Euros

The winner will also be given the opportunity to visit the Institute for a week as a QoG guest scholar and present the paper and/or related research at a QoG seminar during that visit (travel to and accommodation in Gothenburg covered).

Review: the best paper will be reviewed by a panel of referees from the QoG Institute.
